Connect with coffee farmers

The coffees from the eastern highlands of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) are some of the best kept secrets of African coffee. They are world class, and produced in the most challenging but potentially rewarding environments, blessed with high altitude volcanic soils and plentiful rain and sunshine. They are socially and environmentally transformative, traceable back to the farmer, and certified variously Fairtrade, Organic, Rainforest Alliance and Café Practices.

As we go forward we will also bring in further remarkable farmer co-operatives from the East African region.

Why our cooperatives?

Our Congolese cooperatives, against a backdrop of conflict and economic and social deprivation, are working to transform the lives of their members and their communities by producing and exporting extraordinary coffees. They are investing in agronomy, post-harvest processing and rigorous quality control. As their business grows they develop opportunities to engage in community healthcare, education and business training for women and young people. 

In this fragile environment, where coffee has suffered from decades of neglect, addressing farm productivity and climate resilience is a top priority, through seedling nurseries and developing agroforestry.

Our knowledge of the region, these cooperatives and of the market is unrivalled. We have been alongside Eastern DRCongo’s coffee co-operatives for 15 years supporting them to become established and to start realising their ambitions to bring great coffees to the market. We have also worked with small holder farmers in Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Malawi. We have spent more than thirty years at the leading edge of the international coffee market, opening up opportunities for direct, meaningful and rewarding relationships across the value chain. 

How do we work?

At African Coffee Connect, we are not middle-men, or women. We are bridge builders. We put you in direct contact with the managers of the cooperatives. We are always available to support, to advise and to accompany. We nurture a bespoke relationship tailored to match the capabilities and aspirations of each producer to the needs and interests of each buyer.

All business negotiations, contracting and follow-up, are conducted directly between the cooperatives and the buyers, while African Coffee Connect ensures continuous information flows.
