Coopérative Agricole des Producteurs de
Café du Kivu

The Coopérative Agricole des Producteurs de Cafe du Kivu, CAPCKI, was founded by seven coffee producers in 2015 so that coffee farmers would not have to make the dangerous crossing of Lake Kivu to sell their coffee in Rwanda. CAPKI was founded to offer them an alternative way to sell their coffee, without the not insignificant risk of drowning.

With the support of TechnoServe, a non-profit organisation working in development, the cooperative obtained the EOS organic certification by Ecocert for the European market in 2020. The following year it obtained the NOP organic certification for the USA market.

The cooperative works to improve the socio-economic life of its members and the wider community.

Capki makes it possible for farmers to sell their coffee safely without the dangerous crossing of Lake Kivu.

In 2022, the cooperative restored three drinking water sources that had been damaged by earthquakes. These sources supply 54 fountains that provide water to 12,007 households.

This 2023 season, the cooperative distributed 130,424 seedlings to its members.
